EU Directive 2000/43 recalls that "The right to equality before the law and protection against discrimination for all persons constitutes a universal right recognised by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights" and numerous international treaties. Although immigrants are not named in the directive, they are one of the groups most affected by discrimination and therefore most in need of protection by the law and by the institutions. The 2018 UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration puts the spotlight on human rights and anti-discrimination against migrants.

This special issue of Deusto Journal of Human Rights / Revista Deusto de Derechos Humanos approaches the situation of discrimination suffered by immigrants in a number of areas and national contexts from different perspectives, as well as the legal norms and institutions that seek to protect them against discrimination. For example, the Integral Equality Act adopted in Spain in 2022 and the Independent Authority for Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination.

The articles provide an assessment of the European directive 2000/43 in relation to immigration or the various bodies for the promotion of equal treatment that have been established in the Member States. They may address issues such as direct discrimination or various forms of indirect discrimination or multiple discrimination, where discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin is combined with discrimination based on gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation or other forms of discrimination. They can use a variety of methodologies to analyse specific situations of immigrant groups in fields such as the labour market, education, housing, access to health and other public services in different countries or regions...

The articles, written in English or Spanish, must be original contributions, not previously published. And they must have a minimum of 6,000 and a maximum of 10,000 words.

Proposals of 30 lines are invited for consideration by the Journal before February 28, 2023 (revista.derechos.humanos@deusto.es). The full texts of the articles must be delivered before May 31, 2023.
